Suitable for existing providers of minor surgery in general practice, this course presents the hot topics and recent medicolegal cases on an online platform with an attended half-day practical to polish existing skills and learn new ones.
a) Online Teachable Module
i) Hot topics - literature and guidance published in the last 3 years relevant to minor surgery e.g. NICE guidance on the prevention of surgical site infection, perioperative anticoagulatant & antiplatelet management, use of electrosurgical devices etc.
ii) Practical skills - doing simple things perfectly to achieve a better outcome plus one or two new tricks.
iii) DOPS assessment

Course director for minor surgery since 2008 for several RCGP faculties, I update the minor surgery, minor surgery update and joint injection courses continuously to reflect evidence and guidance. I provide minor surgery services in Hertfordshire and London and vasectomy services for Buckinghamshire and Berkshire. My philosophy for any practical skill is to understand why and how small changes in basic techniques lead to significant improvements in clinical outcome.
