NHS Radiology: Collaborating for National Improvement Virtual Conference
Radiology is a vital part of modern medicine and a significant enabler for improved patient diagnosis and continuing care.
Medical imaging is critical in a variety of NHS medical settings and at all major levels of healthcare, in public health and preventive medicine as well as in both curative and palliative care.
2019 saw the NHS publish the Transforming imaging services in England National Strategy which provided a roadmap for improvement across NHS imaging departments, with a particular focus on recruitment, training, and retention of the imaging workforce, and the implementation of collaborative imaging networks. Phase one is to create 24 networks by 2022 & phase two will move towards consolidating to 18 imaging networks by 2023.
Adjacent to this, plans are being drawn up for imaging diagnostic ‘one-stop shops’ that will provide a base away from hospital settings so that patients can receive life-saving checks close to their homes.
