The NHS Maintenance backlog bill has risen to over £9 Billion

This is measured by how much would need to be invested to restore a building to an optimum level based on a series of assessed risk criteria, it does not include planned maintenance work. The latest figures show that the bill for backlog maintenance in the NHS has risen from £6.5 to £9 billion in the space of a year.

Over half of the backlog work needed is classified as of high or significant risk, this means it could impact on the safety of NHS patients and staff.

In response to this, in 2021/22, the NHS capital budget has been increased to begin work on new hospital building, hospital upgrades, and to replace old diagnostic equipment and make further progress on mental health inpatient facilities.

Our NHS Estates & Facilities Conference 2021: Managing demand and innovation will provide a timely platform for NHS estates leaders to meet and discuss some of the most pressing issues being faced today.

Best practice sessions will provide you with ideas and solutions that can help you drive productivity and improved outcomes for your organisation.

Key event learning points and discussion topics:

Capital Investment Strategy
Leadership and Workforce management
Maintenance backlog: Innovating to overcome.
New Hospital Development programme: plans and best practice
Governance
